Wonder Woman – First Official Image of the Amazons

Refreshing

As the latest Batman v Superman reviews have revealed, one of the best (and most cheered about) parts of the movie was the appearance of Wonder Woman, as brief as it was. And this is good news, given the very poor reviews written for this year's grudge match. Why is it good news? Because even if Batman v Superman in general ends up disappointing audiences, they’ll still be excited for Wonder Woman's solo flick.

Set to be released on the 23rd of June 2017, the movie has already seen the release of a featurette, and even some official images. Today has seen the release of another official pic, this time depicting Wonder Woman and several other Amazons. And the pic looks"¦well"¦refreshing, to say the least.

Obviously, Wonder Woman is at the center. On her right stands Melanippe, her trainer, portrayed by Lisa Loven Kongsli. On her left stand Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), the Queen of the Amazons, and General Antiope (Robin Wright), the other trainer. Looks excellent, right?

Here is what director Patty Jenkins says in her Entertainment Weekly interview about the Amazons wearing high-heels on an everyday basis and flats for the fighting scenes:

To me, they shouldn't be dressed in armor like men. It should be different. It should be authentic and real"”and appealing to women. It's total wish-fulfillment. I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time"”the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs.

Here is what Gal Gadot says about her standalone movie as Wonder Woman:

There’s only so much I can say. But…the Wonder Woman you’re going to see in Batman v Superman is a very different Wonder Woman that you will see in the standalone movie. The Wonder Woman that you see in Batman v Superman is a woman who has been around, and she’s very experienced. She understands a lot about men. Whereas in the standalone movie we are telling the grown-up story. Diana becoming Wonder Woman, and this was a story that was never told before. When she starts this journey, she’s very pure. She’s more naive, she’s this young idealist who does not really understand the complexities of life and the complexities of men. (via CBM)
