Marvel’s Blade Video Game May Be Saved From Cancellation

Marvel's Blade video game has been announced from Bethesda and Arkane.

Marvel’s Blade video game may see the light of day after all. The game was first announced in 2023 with a surprise trailer. Unfortunately, developments have been relatively few and far between since. However, with Xbox currently in the process of trying to sell Arkane Studios, the company behind the game, things have been on uncertain ground. Fortunately, it looks like the tide may be turning.

According to Bloomberg, multiple companies have made offers to Microsoft to acquire Arkane Studios. The French video-game developer is behind the Dishonored series as well as the upcoming Blade game. In the mix are Ubisoft and at least two other, unnamed companies. It was announced in July that Xbox would divest Arkane and several other companies. It’s part of a “reset” of the gaming business at Microsoft.

The potential sale of Arkane put Blade in jeopardy. If the studio fails to attract a buyer or if Microsoft can’t come to terms before the current December deadline, the game may be scrapped. This, despite the fact that it’s already rather far along in its development. As is, it’s expected to arrive either in 2027 or 2028. If Ubisoft or someone else steps up, there’s no reason to believe that timeline couldn’t still be realistic.

Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Blade video game.

“Marvel’s Blade game will take players to a quarantined section of Paris in the middle of a supernatural emergency. Vampires have emerged, terrorizing the city of lights and forcing Parisians to shelter inside their homes at night to wait for sunrise.”

Things have been a little up and down for Marvel Games in recent years. Games like Marvel’s Avengers failed to live up to expectations. EA was also forced to cancel a planned Black Panther game. Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 were big hits for PlayStation, but those are more outliers. Even Marvel’s Wolverine was met with a so-so response after years of fans waiting for it.

Other games have also been facing uncertain futures. Marvel 1943: The Rise of Hydra has been delayed indefinitely despite releasing a trailer well over a year ago. If the Blade game is also canceled, it would be a bad look for Marvel in this department. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that. We’ll likely know a lot more in the coming weeks.

Marvel’s Blade video game doesn’t have a release date but stay tuned.
