Jeremy Irons Lands Lead Role in HBO’s Watchmen Pilot!

HBO's Watchmen pilot has found its leading man in Jeremy Irons!

HBO just made an official announcement that Jeremy Irons (Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeJustice League) has been added to the cast of Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen pilot. All we know about his character is that he’s an aging and imperious lord of a British manor, but The Hollywood Reporter and other outlets speculated that the Academy Award-winning actor had signed on for a lead role.

It's unclear whether Irons will play a character from the comic books or a newly created one. But the actor has certainly demonstrated throughout his nearly five decades as an actor that he’s able to play a variety of roles. We’re confident that he’ll nail this one, as well!

Irons joins an impressive cast that includes Regina King (The Leftovers), Don Johnson (Miami Vice), Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby), Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk), Louis Gossett, Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman), and Andrew Howard (Agents of SHIELD). Nicole Kassell (Westworld, The Americans, The Leftovers) will direct.

Check out HBO’s project description:

The [Watchmen] series is set in an alternate history where "superheroes” are treated as outlaws. And while Lindelof plans to embrace the nostalgia of the groundbreaking original graphic novel, the series will also attempt to break new ground of its own.
