Marvel’s Midnight Suns Video Game Announced, Trailer Revealed

A new Marvel game is confirmed to be coming our way next year. Announced as part of this year’s Gamescom event, Firaxis Games revealed a trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. The XCOM developer is set to release the game in early 2022. Have a look.

Much like XCOM, this will put Marvel heroes and villains in the midst of a turn-based battle with one another. The game will feature customizable heroes. It will pit various heroes, such as Iron Man and Wolverine, against large numbers of enemies. The goal is to take out as many as possible.

The game is being described as a “single-player focused experience.” So this isn’t exactly like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which is best enjoyed with a group. This is tailored to the individual experience. Not dependent on multiplayer, as so many modern video games are.

Players will suit up as The Hunter. This customizable character is the child of Lilith, the villain at the center of the game. They will be joined by a roster of 12 heroes. This list includes the likes of Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Magik, Nico, Captain Marvel and Blade

Here is the logline for Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

“When Hell awakens, only they can stop it. Rise up and join a darker order of heroes to defeat Lilith before the Darkhold is complete in this tactical RPG set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe.”

“It’s a story that hasn’t been told in 30 years now… since the comic came out,” creative director Jake Solomon said. “It gave us two things, right? One, it gave us a new villain, which I love Lilith as a villain. It gave us all these new characters to talk about, some supernatural characters that I think players won’t be as familiar with. And then of course the more popular characters we could pull down to this sort of darker side of the Marvel universe.”

The game will take its inspiration from a Marvel Comics storyline that kicked off in the 90s. Starting in the pages of Ghost Rider, Rise of the Midnight Sons kicked off in 1992. For those who may not be familiar, here is the synopsis from Marvel.

“Former Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze joins Danny Ketch, his successor, along with Living Vampire Morbius, vampire-slaying Blade and his Nightstalkers, and the Darkhold Redeemers, in the fight against Lilith, Mother of Demons! But as this terror-inducing crew targets Lilith’s overrun progeny, they draw closer to their truest natures…with horrifying results.”

This is just the latest Marvel game coming down the pipeline. Both Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales arrived last year. Marvel also has its new Guardians of the Galaxy game debuting in October

The game will be widely available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. The first gameplay footage is scheduled to be showcased on September 1.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns arrives on March 2022.
