God of War: Fallen God Series Announced by Dark Horse Comics

Get ready for some more Kratos action. As announced by Comicbook.com, Dark Horse Comics is expanding the God of War franchise beyond the video game series with a new comic book titled God of War: Fallen God. The book will take place between the events of God of War III and the most recent entry, 2018’s best-selling, critically-acclaimed God of War.

The book’s creative team consists of writer Chris Roberson (iZombie, God of War), artist Tony Parker (God of War, This Damned Band), colorer Dan Jackson (The Strain, The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys), and letterer John Roshell (Overwatch Anthology). Dark Horse has also revealed a cover, which we’ve included below and was cooked up by Dave Rapoza.

Here’s the official synopsis for God of War: Fallen God

God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos after conquering Zeus and thwarting Athena. Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable—himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites Madness.”

The God of War video games have proven to be tremendously popular, selling more than 32 million games globally. There has been talk of possibly getting a movie going at some point, with Pacific Rim: Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight expressing interest in bringing the series to the big screen with Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista as Kratos.

“I’ve always been a fan of God of War. I think the latest game was just so beautiful and phenomenal. I would love to tackle a God of War movie or I would love to see somebody put that up on the big screen,” DeKnight said in a previous interview with Comicbook.com. “Somebody asked me, ‘Well, who would you have to have Kratos?’ And immediately for me: Dave Bautista would be the man. I think he can do anything. You can do drama, real emotion, humor, action. What would I like to see from a movie like that? A bit of a tricky question because there hasn’t really been 100% success of translating a video game to a movie. It’s a very, very tricky process.”

God of War: Fallen God #1 hits stands on June 24.
