Warner Bros. Animation and DC studios are tripling down on animation. During a presentation at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, not one but three new animated TV shows were announced. Absolute Batman, Joker: Laugh Riot and Krypto will all be coming our way over the next several years.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Absolute Batman will see the comic’s co-creator Scott Snyder involved directly in the series as executive producer and showrunner. Artist Nick Dragotta is also involved in the development. Absolute Batman debuted in 2024 and was an instant hit for DC, completely reimagining the Dark Knight’s mythos.
As for Joker: Laugh Riot, it’s being headed up by executive producer Jim Krieg (Crisis on Infinite Earths). It’s being billed as the first anime series at DC Studios. The series will feature a new spin on the villain, sending Joker out to find Batman’s killer. No word yet on who will be voicing the Clown Prince of Crime, but Alan Tudyk voices the character in the Harley Quinn TV series. Whether or not he returns remains to be seen.
Lastly, Krypto will be executive produced by C.H. Greenblatt (SpongeBob SquarePants). The super dog has been a big part of the new DC Universe, appearing in both last year’s Superman and the new Supergirl movie, which hits theaters this weekend. DC and Warner Bros. also released a synopsis for each of the new shows, which you can check out below.
Here is the synopsis for Absolute Batman.
“Absolute Batman boldly reinvents the Batman mythos for a new generation of fans, reimagining the Dark Knight as a working-class hero up against impossible odds (and the most terrifying foes ever), on a mission to prove that even in an era of wealth, power and corruption, one good person can change the world.
No manor, no money… all Batman. When you take away the manor, the money, the advantages, what you’re left with is something absolute.”
Here is the synopsis for Joker: Laugh Riot.
“When Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find the killer who took away his greatest adversary. But as his violent quest for answers pushes him closer towards vigilante than villain, Joker is forced to confront the truth that without Batman, he doesn’t know who he is.”
And here is the synopsis for Krypto.
“When he’s not hanging out with Superman or Supergirl, Krypto tags along with a gang of misfit criminal wannabes who live down the block, and they soon discover he’s a ball of destructive, lovable energy worse than any of them! As he follows them into misadventures and poorly laid plans, Krypto’s pure nature slowly ends up redeeming them, whether they want it or not.”
This adds to an already stacked animated slate in development at DC Studios. A Mister Miracle TV series is already deep in development from Tom King. Creature Commandos season 2 is also on the way and is expected to be coming our way sooner rather than later. Beyond that, an animated movie focused on Robin titled Dynamic Duo is also in the works.
Absolute Batman, Joker: Laugh Riot and Krypto don’t have release dates yet. Stay tuned.
