Warner Bros. and DC have released the first trailer for Batman: Knightfall. Initially confirmed in 2024, we now have our first look at this adaptation of one of Batman’s greatest stories. But WB hasn’t limited this to one movie. Rather, it’s going to be an entire animated trilogy beginning this year with Part 1: Knightfall. Check it out for yourself.
The movies are based on the classic storyline that was published by DC Comics between 1993 and 1994. It’s famous for, among other things, the now infamous scene where Bane breaks Batman’s back. The story later went on to greatly influence Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Just like in that movie, Bane is the main villain here. The cast is led by Anson Mount (Inhumans) as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Mando (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Bane and Pablo Schreiber (Halo) as Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael.
Here is the synopsis for Batman: Knightfall – Part 1: Knightfall.
“Arkham Asylum has been destroyed, and all its inmates have been unleashed upon Gotham City. As Batman races to round up some of his greatest enemies, he is pushed to his physical and mental limits and into a final confrontation with a new threat: the man called Bane!”
The first installment screened recently in its entirety at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. So it’s ready to go. It’s just a matter of when Warner Bros. feels compelled to release it, but we do know that it’s coming at some point this year. As for Part 2 and Part 3? That’s another question entirely but it’s unlikely that the studio will have overly long gaps between installments. They’ll want to keep the momentum going.
The first movie in the trilogy is directed by Jeff Wamester, with a script by Jeremy Adams. Rick Morales serves as Supervising Producer. Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau are on board as producers. Sam Register and Michael Uslan serve as Executive Producers.
Elsewhere in the greater Batman universe, director Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is finally underway. Production is taking place as we speak, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Caped Crusader. The sequel is set to hit theaters in October 2027. These animated movies should help fill the void until then.
Batman: Knightfall – Part 1: Knightfall is set to arrive sometime in 2026. Stay tuned.
