Marvel has released a new trailer for Venom #1. The upcoming series will reboot the character within the pages of Marvel Comics. Not only is he one of the most enduringly popular characters in the publisher’s canon, but he is coming off of a character-defining run that recently came to an end. So this new iteration has some big shoes to fill. Have a look at the trailer.
This gives us our first good taste of what to expect from writers Al Ewing and Ram V. They are taking over following the conclusion of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s hugely popular run with the character. It included the recent event King In Black, which was quite successful. But the trailer reveals where the story is heading next. And it appears to b some violent and strange places. Two symbiotes for the price of one. Eddie patrolling space. While his son Dylan is holding it down on Earth.
Here is the synopsis for Venom #1.
“AN EPIC NEW ERA FOR THE SINISTER SYMBIOTE STARTS HERE! Hot off the heels of VENOM #200 and EXTREME CARNAGE, we’re closing out 2021 with one of the most ambitious books in symbiote history – an all-new VENOM from some of comics’ greatest talents! Marvel mainstay AL EWING, who himself has just ended a character-redefining run on IMMORTAL HULK, is being joined by RAM V, a horror maestro all his own, to craft a mind-bending and gut-wrenching tale of symbiosis the likes of which the Marvel Universe has never seen! AS IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH, they’ve been joined by industry legend BRYAN HITCH, who is leaving IT ALL ON THE PAGE! We haven’t led you astray yet, have we? So trust us when we tell you that you have NEVER seen a VENOM like this!”
This book comes at a unique time for the character. His popularity has been rejuvenated in the comics, largely thanks to Cates and Stegman. But he’s also at the center of a blockbuster movie franchise. 2018’s Venom was a massive it. Its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carange, is set to hit theaters on October 1. With that being the case, the character has arguably never had more importance to the Marvel empire. Even if it is Sony that controls the movie rights currently, meaning Disney doesn’t benefit from the box office.
Even so, the timing of this new book is perfectly aligned with the new movie. That should help move some copies off the shelves.
Venom #1 hits shelves on October 21.
