Warner Bros. and DC have revealed a brand new trailer for Suicide Squad Isekai. This brand-new series is set to take the members of Task Force X into a brand new realm: anime. The show was originally announced over the summer but this trailer offers our first good look at what’s to come. Check it out.
The trailer is pretty wild. It’s colorful, full of craziness, action-packed, and violent. The plot feels familiar, with Harley Quinn and the gang sent into a very dangerous situation by Amanda Waller. They have to contend with a variety of enemies, and things get bloody along the way. These characters feel very suited to the anime format based on the trailer. How well that works across an entire series remains to be seen.
Here is the synopsis for Suicide Squad Isekai.
“In the crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an ‘ISEKAI’!
With lethal explosives planted in their necks, there’s no running or hiding, and failing the mission means a one-way ticket to the afterlife! Can Harley Quinn and her crew conquer this perilous ISEKAI realm?! Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure!”
The cast includes Harley Quinn voiced by Anna Nagase (Summer Time Rendering), The Joker voiced by Yuichiro Umehara (Goblin Slayer), Deadshot voiced by Reigo Yamaguchi (The Eminence in Shadow), Peacemaker voiced by Takehito Koyasu (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), Clayface voiced by Jun Fukuyama (Blue Exorcist) and King Shark voiced by Subaru Kimura (Jujutsu Kaisen). Eri Osada (Jujutsu Kaisen) directs the series, which was written by Tappei Nagatsuki (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World) and Eiji Umehara (Vivy Prototype).
Warner Bros. previously produced two live-action movies based on these characters. 2016’s Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn. Ayer’s movie was far more successful financially, but Gunn’s film was received better critically. Gunn’s film also spawned a spin-off series, Peacemaker, which airs on the Max streaming service. A second season is in the works.
Suicide Squad Isekai is set to arrive in 2024.
