The beginning of the end is officially here. The CW has released a trailer for The Flash season 9, which will be the show’s last. It was announced when the show was renewed that the network would bring the series to a close with this last run of episodes. So, this doesn’t come as a surprise. But it does mean that Team Flash will be bringing this thing in for a proper landing after nearly a decade on the air. Here is our first glimpse at what’s to come.

It appears as though the network is leaning into the emotional angle here. Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen has been the longest-running part of the Arrowverse. It may have been Arrow that started things, but this show has managed to run even longer. That being the case, it’s not surprising to see the emotion of it all being played up here. And yes, there is plenty of Speedforce action and drama at play.
Here is the synopsis for The Flash season 9 premiere.
“Barry (Grant Gustin) creates a map book to guide him and Iris (Candice Patton) throughout their future in order to keep her safe, but the results are not what he expected, and instead, they relive the same day over and over again. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) has a heart-to-heart with Cecile (Danielle Nicolet). A new big bad is introduced to Team Flash and friends and foes, old and new, begin to descend upon Central City.”
The cast includes Grant Gustin as Barry Allen / The Flash, Candace Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West. Vanessa Parise directed the premiere episode, which was written by Thomas Pound and Sarah Tarkoff.
The Flash began its run back in 2014, debuting when the Arrowverse wasn’t quite yet formed. It served as a springboard for other shows such as Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and more. However, with The CW recently sold to Nexstar, original programming has been winding down. In particular, scripted programming has taken a big hit. It’s expected that the Arrowverse will pack it in for good following Superman & Lois season 3 and Gotham Knights. But, before that happens, we’ve got one last round of adventures with the Scarlet Speedster.
The Flash season 9 premieres February 8.
