The Top 10 Highest Selling Comic Books Of 2023 Revealed

The top ten highest-selling comic books of the year have been revealed. Put simply, it’s Batman’s world and we’re just living in it. DC Comics absolutely dominated the charts this year. More specifically, writer Chip Zdarsky’s ongoing run on Batman made up the majority of the list this year, with Marvel and Image having to settle for what was left. It was a truly impressive showing for the Caped Crusader.

Per Bleeding Cool, Batman #131 was the top-selling single issue of the year. But Zdarsky’s run on the series saw five more individual issues crack the top ten. In all, Zdarsky’s work occupied the top four spots. Since Batman Knight Terrors #1 also cracked the top ten, DC’s Dark Knight finished with the top seven spots, and eight of the top ten overall. Check out the full list below.

Chip Zdarsky took over Batman with issue #125, kicking off his run with a storyline titled Failsafe. That run launched in the back half of 2022. The new jumping-on point for readers was met with a very strong reception. That has managed to keep readers interested in the storylines that followed, as evidenced by the title’s dominance in sales this year. Batman #131 hit shelves in January and no title challenged its sales rank for the entire year.

Here is the synopsis for Batman #131.

“Gotham City has never been darker or deadlier. And after Failsafe, there is no Batman to save it. Can the fractured ghost that roams the streets survive? Whatever happened to the man known as…Bruce Wayne?”

Not surprisingly, Marvel’s most popular superhero was the one who managed to get the publisher on the board. Image Comics also rounded out the list with Void Rivals. The new series launched earlier this year and hails from Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. As something of a major surprise, it ended up launching a new shared universe with G.I. Joe and Transformers. Once word got out, the issue became a must-read. The first solo Transformers series launched recently with several G.I. Joe books set to follow.

All of these books are available now through digital retailers or a comic shop near you.
