The trailer is absolutely packed with action and familiar faces. It is exceedingly difficult to bring nearly a decade’s worth of storytelling to a close. That said, it looks like the team is leaving no stone unturned before the curtains close on Barry and Team Flash for good. It is widely accepted that the show’s best days are behind it, but one can hope that the finale manages to stick the landing. Especially given that the Arrowverse as a whole is on the verge of wrapping things up. This is largely thanks to the fact that the network was sold last year

Here is the synopsis for The Flash series finale, titled A New World Part Four.

“THE FINAL RUN – The Flash (Grant Gustin), the fastest man alive, is tasked with his greatest challenge yet, to save the timeline and save existence. Friends old and new gather for an epic battle to save Central City, one last time.”

The Flash ranks as one of The CW’s longest-running shows of all time, with over 180 episodes across nine seasons. It even managed to eclipse Arrow, which started the Arrowverse in the first place. The series originally debuted in October 2014 and was created by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. Thanks to the show’s success, other DC series such as Supergirl, Black Lightning, Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were able to thrive on the network.

The series finale was written by Eric Wallace and Sam Chalsen, with Vanessa Parise in the director’s chair. Wallace has served as showrunner on the series for some time, and he made sure to have a direct hand in crafting the final episode. The cast includes Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, Jon Cor as Mark Blaine/Chillblaine and Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West.

The Flash series finale airs on May 24 on The CW.
