DC has released a brand new trailer for Absolute Green Arrow. This new series is the latest addition to the DC Comics Absolute line, which has been a big success thus far. Absolute Batman was a huge hit right out of the gate. Now? It’s time for a radical new take on the publisher’s arrow-flinging hero. Be warned; it’s bloody, brutal and probably not what you would expect at first glance. Check it out.
The book hails from Pornsak Pichetshote (Dead Boy Detectives) and Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics). As the trailer reveals, it’s ultra violent and has been billed as a slasher series. There have been plenty of grim and gritty reinventions of classic characters, but this looks like a rather extreme example. It’s also, rather notably, not going to give us much of Oliver Queen since the book hook is that he’s killed right up top. It’s nothing if not a bold choice.
Here is the synopsis for Absolute Green Arrow.
“A serial killer is slaughtering corrupt billionaires. The only clue to their identity is the mysterious green arrows sticking out of his victims’ corpses. Executive protection specialist Dinah Lance, a.k.a. Absolute Black Canary, is one of the people tasked to uncover this murderer’s identity as she investigates her suspects…all familiar DC archers uniquely linked to a recently murdered Oliver Queen. I Know What You Did Last Summer for billionaires, Absolute Green Arrow reimagines the Emerald Archer’s mythos into a dangerous, urban horror murder-mystery by Eisner winners Pornsak Pichetshote (Dead Boy Detectives, Infidel) and Rafael Albuquerque (Detective Comics, American Vampire).”
“Oliver Queen may be dead. The Green Arrow is not dead. A serial killer called the Longbow Hunter is hunting down the billionaires responsible for Oliver Queen’s death,” DC executive editor Chris Conroy said at the ComicsPro 2026 conference (via Popverse). “Nobody knows who the Longbow Hunter is, but it is down to Agent Dinah Lance to find out. This is a slasher horror series. This is Scream, Halloween, meets Green Arrow. Six issues from Pornsak and Rafael, starting in May.”
Many fans have built their association of Green Arrow thanks to Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow. The series ran for eight seasons and helped establish the ArrowVerse, which was an all-encompassing monster for years. But that show was very TV friendly. This new series is going hard, leaving heavy on horror. Get ready for something very different.
Absolute Green Arrow #1 hits shelves on May 20.
