The Supergirl movie has been put on hold for the time being. This, according to a new report from Heroic Hollywood. It states that Warner Bros. is now focused on Superman once again, which is said to involve bringing Henry Cavill back to the DCEU.
The publication released a video detailing the Superman situation as it stands. During the video, it’s revealed that, per their sources, Supergirl has been put on pause.
“Development on the Supergirl movie is not going forward for the time being because, according to an insider with knowledge of the situation, DC has to first figure out what to do with Superman,” the video states. “It just doesn’t make sense, post-Justice League, to have a standalone Supergirl movie go before Superman, which fans have been clamoring for. At press time, we don’t know yet if writers have been hired to come up with a new Superman film.”
This makes for an interesting development. Not only because Supergirl will continue to be represented best on the small screen on The CW, but because it paves the way for Man of Steel 2 to become a priority once again at Warner Bros. Or whatever form a solo Superman film would take.
“In 2018, just before the debut of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Zachary Levi’s Shazam, it was announced that a Supergirl film was in development with screenwriter Oren Uziel tapped to write the script,” the video states.” He previously scripted 22 Jump Street and The Cloverfield Paradox before also being tapped to write the sequel to Ryan Reynolds’ Detective Pikachu. Rumors suggested that Kara Zor El’s solo film would springboard a new actor to replace Henry Cavill’s Superman.”
The status of Cavill’s time as Superman has been in doubt ever since Justice League failed to deliver at the box office. It has become a major question amongst fans. Things got even more heated when the Man of Steel made a brief appearance in Shazam, without Cavill in the suit.
The video suggests that the Supergirl movie would have taken place in the 70s, far removed from the main DCEU timeline. The video also points out that there was an open pod in the crashed Kryptonian ship from Man of Steel. This suggests the pod may have belonged to Kal’s cousin, Kara. This would raise some big questions, like why the world isn’t used to heroes like Superman? And why Kara didn’t show up to help Superman with Zod, or the Justice League with Steppenwolf? It’s also suggested that Brainiac would have been the villain in the solo flick.
