Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just around the corner. The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie hits theaters in mere days and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be back on the big screen for the first time in four years. A lot has happened since No Way Home and the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday is upon us. But where does Brand New Day take place on the overall MCU timeline? And how might that impact Doomsday?
In a recent interview with Collider, Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed that Brand New Day “takes place before” the events of Avengers: Doomsday. While he didn’t get too specific, that gives us some idea of how things will unfolded as the Multiverse Saga approaches its conclusion. No Way Home took place in 2024 and Brand New Day takes place four years after. That puts it sometime in 2028.
Remember, Avengers: Endgame featured a five-year time jump, which put the MCU ahead of the real world in terms of the passage of time. It’s also important to remember that Holland isn’t part of the confirmed cast for Doomsday. Because of the spell Doctor Strange used, the world forgot that Peter was Spider-Man. So, he’d theoretically have no reason to be part of the team facing off against Doctor Doom. At least not at first.
It’s also important to remember that next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude the Multiverse Saga. If Spidey isn’t part of Doomsday, it would sure as heck make sense for him to be a part of Secret Wars. A lot of that could depend on how his next solo adventure shakes out.
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“It’s a brand new day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.
The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is in the director’s chair for this one. The cast also includes Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Michael Mando (Scorpion), Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Tramell Tillman (Severance) in a mystery role. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is also on board in a major role.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
