Spider-Man: Brand New Day is just around the corner. Despite several trailers revealing a fair amount of what fans can expect, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Specifically around Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and her mysterious character. Holland has now weighed in on one persistent rumor regarding her character.
In an interview with TikToker Natalia Kreuser, Holland was asked point blank if Sink is playing Jean Grey, one of the most famous members of the X-Men. This is a persistent rumor/fan theory that seemingly won’t die and might explain why Marvel Studios has refused to reveal who the actress is playing. However, if Holland is to be taken at his word, this theory is ultimately just a theory. Here’s what he had to say about it.
“Oh, she’s not in the movie, but that would be pretty cool.”
Now, let’s remember that actors in Marvel movies have a history of lying. Specifically, Andrew Garfield lying repeatedly about not being in Spider-Man: No Way Home. So it’s tough to take actors at their word anymore. Marvel also has several mystery movies dated for 2028, one of which is very likely the forthcoming X-Men reboot. Debuting the new Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie wouldn’t be the obvious choice, but it would potentially make this movie an even bigger event than it already is.
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“It’s a brand new day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.
The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.”
Brand New Day takes place four years after the events of No Way Home. Rather importantly, it also takes place before the events of Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters in December. Holland is not part of the confirmed cast of that movie, but it’s believed that he will be part of next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars. We’ll surely know a lot more once this movie hits theaters.
The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). The cast also includes Jon Bernthal (Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Michael Mando (Scorpion), Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Tramell Tillman (Severance) in a mystery role.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31.
