Just yesterday, a new report from a very reliable outlet nearly gave Batman fans – including me – a heart attack! The report suggested that Warner Bros. planned to "gracefully usher out" Ben Affleck's Caped Crusader, and added that it would be "wise to bet against" seeing the actor in Matt Reeves' The Batman.
However, it's now crystal clear that it would have been WISER to wait until Affleck’s appearance at the studio's San Diego Comic-Con International panel. The actor spoke up, and his words were enough to GRACEFULLY shoot down that rumor (via CineMovie TV)!
At the SDCC panel, moderator Chris Hardwick mentioned the report about Affleck giving up the Bruce Wayne role. Before he could even finish his question, the actor intervened:
Let me be very clear. I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest f**king part in any universe - DC, Marvel"¦I am so thrilled to do that…It's f**king amazing. I still can't believe I've done two films and have this great history with this studio. Kevin Tsujihara, Sue Kroll, and Toby Emmerich have said, “We want you to be our Batman.” I believe I'm in"¦And with Matt Reeves doing it, it's like, “I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves, never mind being Batman!” So, I'm really blown away and excited, and it's a great time in the DC Universe"¦And you can see why I am so excited to play Batman.
Check out a recorded version of his statement below!
Of course, even if there were something going on, Warner Bros. would probably have Ben Affleck deny the rumor. But he delivered the statement with such passion and enthusiasm that it left no doubt that he had no intention of leaving his role in the DCEU. How long the actor will wear the cape and cowl remains to be seen, but we can rest assured that he’ll star in The Batman.
