This year's San Diego Comic Con is one of the biggest ever, thanks to the presence of Avengers: Infinity War and Justice League. And this might be the biggest bombshell ever, especially since Ben Affleck will be there to promote the DC Extended Universe's first ensemble flick.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. wants to replace Ben Affleck as the DCEU's Batman! This news comes after studio chief Toby Emmerich said that Affleck is the Caped Crusader and will remain so for as long as possible:
Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Matt Reeves will literally start from scratch with The Batman reboot. But we’re not just talking a new story and script. It’s likely that Reeves plans to introduce a new Dark Knight.
Reeves already said that he was planning to make a Batman trilogy. Unfortunately, Affleck had already stepped down as director and writer. Who’s to say that the aging actor won't do it again?
Of course, this is just a statement from a THR source. But we assume that Affleck’s decision was greatly influenced by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s poor reception, although his take on the Caped Crusader was well-received. Also, taking the most recent Justice League rumors into account, we assume that the actor won't be satisfied with how the movie turns out.
To be noted, THR says that another character could transition into Bruce Wayne’s position as the Batman. But what effect would that have on the billionaire’s future?
