Here is the synopsis for Bitter Root.
“In the 1920s, the Harlem Renaissance is in full swing, and only the Sangerye Family can save New York-and the world-from the supernatural forces threatening to destroy humanity. But the once-great family of monster hunters has been torn apart by tragedies and conflicting moral codes. The Sangerye Family must heal the wounds of the past and move beyond their differences… or sit back and watch a force of unimaginable evil ravage the human race.”
King is coming off of a majorly impressive run. As a director, she most recently directed the acclaimed One Night In Miami. The Amazon film was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Leslie Odom Jr). King is, herself, an accomplished actor, having appeared in HBO’s Watchmen and many other hit shows. She has four Emmys to her name, as well as an Oscar for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk.
Following the release of If Beale Street Could Talk it was expected that King would be in line for some major projects. There was some discussion of her possibly being considered for the new Superman movie, which J.J. Abrams is producing. It was also rumored that King was being eyed by Marvel for its Blade Reboot. But Legendary managed to close the deal.
King, Reina King, Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian are producing. Walker, Greene, Brown and Sean Owolo are on board as executive producers. The script is currently being rewritten by Bryan Edward Hill. There is no word on casting at this time. It also isn’t clear how soon the studio intends to get production up and running.
The Bitter Root movie does not yet have a release date.
