We’ve seen some photos from the Shazam! set that provided a fairly clear idea of how lead actor Zachary Levi will look as the superhero, but Warner Bros. has continued to procrastinate about releasing any official images.
Ten days after production wrapped, the studio unveiled a promotional banner for the April 5, 2019 release at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo, but didn’t share it online. But, just when we began to think they intended to wait until San Diego Comic-Con 2018 – which will take place in late July – the studio finally dropped an official photo online via Entertainment Weekly.
The photo is our best look so far at the fully costumed Levi. Shazam is apparently a cola lover, as he’s enjoying the fizzy drink in both the banner and the new image.
The difference is that this time around, he’s not alone in the shot. A teenage Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), is downing his own can of pop beside his superhero pal. Check it out below!
EW also published a brief interview with director David F. Sandberg, who explained how he decided on the costume’s design:
I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original, because that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more like a Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I'm going for. I don't know if [the suit is] crazy big if you look at some of the others – look at Batman.
