The Avengers are getting giant robotic suits next year, as revealed in the first trailer for Avengers Mech Strike. Marvel has released a new look at the upcoming series, which was announced earlier in the year. The trailer digs a bit deeper, revealing what happens when Earth’s mightiest heroes get a major upgrade. Have a look.
As we can see from the trailer, a monstrous and colossal threat is at the center of the story. To deal with said threat, Tony Stark provides his fellow heroes with a major upgrade. This comes in the form of gigantic, robotic suits. They are not unlike the Hulkbuster armor, which fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will recognize from Avengers: Age of Ultron. It looks to be an action-packed affair.
Jed MacKay (BLACK CAT) is writing the five-issue miniseries, with art by Carlos Magno (FANTASTIC FOUR, EMPYRE: AVENGERS). Kei Zama designed the cover for the first issued, which we’ve included below for you to check out.
Here is the synopsis for Avengers Mech Strike #1.
“The Avengers are confronted with an unstoppable new menace, one that is seemingly impervious to their every strength! But the Avengers aren’t so easily beaten, and when new threats arise, powerful new tools must be brought to bear! Join the Avengers as they battle a brand-new enemy…and begin a deadly game of chess with a shadowy mastermind!”
“Heavy metal! When the Avengers come up against something that defies their usual methods, new tools are needed for the job: giant robot suits,” MacKay said previously when the book was first announced. “It’s been a blast to take on the Avengers and really put them in the thick of it. When you’re dealing with the Avengers, everything is big. Big action. Big stakes. And now, big robots!”
The big question the series will have to answer is why now is the time to bring out these mech suits. Tony Stark has had the power, seemingly, to do something like this for years. The threat at hand will need to justify such extensive measures. But for those who don’t wish to read that much into it, they can enjoy the surface level fun of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Black Widow suiting up in robo armor.
Avengers Mech Strike #1 hits stands in February.
