Kraven the Hunter Movie Almost Happened Instead of Spider-Man: No Way Home - Daily Superheroes - Your daily dose of Superheroes news

Kraven the Hunter Movie Almost Happened Instead of Spider-Man: No Way Home

It turns out we almost got a very different third Spider-Man movie in the MCU. Tom Holland has revealed that we nearly got a Kraven the Hunter movie, as opposed to Spider-Man: No Way Home. While we’re now getting villains of the multiverse such as Doc Ock, Electro and Green Goblin, we almost had a seemingly simpler tale. And one that would have brought a beloved villain to the big screen.

Holland is currently promoting the release of No Way Home, which hits theaters next week. During a recent chat with Collider, the actor explained that director Jon Watts had an entirely different pitch. Just in case they couldn’t get this crazy multiverse movie together, Watts had fleshed out an idea involving Kraven. Here’s what Holland had to say about it.

“For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working out and all sorts of different stuff. Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which actually was really cool. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening down the line, but it was fun.”

That is certainly intriguing. Kraven is one of Spider-Man’s oldest and most dangerous foes. He appeared way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #15, created by the legendary duo of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. But it was the duo of J. M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck who immortalized the character in the storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt. Originally published in 1987, it has long been a fan favorite and could have made for a cool movie.

Here is the synopsis for Kraven’s Last Hunt.

“Kraven the Hunter has killed every animal known to man. But there is one beast that has eluded him: the web-slinging Spider-Man. To prove that he is the hero’s master, Kraven will don his costume and become the wall-crawler…after he shoots and buries him six feet under!”

The good news is, we’re still getting Kraven in a movie. Sony is currently developing a Kraven the Hunter movie, similar to what they did with Venom, as well as the upcoming Morbius. The film will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role. J.C. Chandor (Triple Frontier) is on board to direct. It just likely won’t involve Spider-Man, at least not at first.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17.
