The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has reached its conclusion. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series is now available to stream in its entirety on Disney+. Season 1, likely the only season of the show (though certainly not the end for these characters) is in the books and fans who have been waiting to binge it from front to back can now do so.
This was originally scheduled to be the first live-action MCU series to debut on Disney+. But production issues related to the pandemic got in the way. Ultimately, it was WandaVision that kicked off Phase 4 of the MCU and got this new era of Marvel TV underway. But Sam and Bucky’s small-screen team-up wasn’t far behind. Now, the show has reached its conclusion.
Here is the synopsis for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Following the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ ‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.’”
Disney has opted to go with a week-to-week release strategy for most of its original series. This started with The Mandalorian when the service launched. Netflix, meanwhile, still usually dumps entire seasons all at once. However Disney+ shows tend to get more play and coverage over multiple. This allows Disney to get more juice from the squeeze, so to speak. Netflix, meanwhile, has trained many viewers to prefer binging a show. Those who still prefer that method have to wait until a Disney+ series has wrapped a full season to do so.
Kari Skogland directed the show, with Malcolm Spellman serving as the head writer. The cast also saw Daniel Bruhl return to reprise his role as Baron Zemo, with Emily VanCamp back as Sharon Carter. Wyatt Russell joins the MCU as John Walker/U.S. Agent.
These MCU shows, thus far, have been heavily tied to the movies. That will likely continue to be the case going forward. Other shows already in development include Loki, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight. Secret Invasion, Ironheart, Armor Wars and I Am Groot have been announced as well. Plus, James Gunn is working on The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
