Final Black Widow Trailer Released by Marvel

Marvel has released the final trailer for Black Widow. This is set to be the first film released by Marvel Studios since last year’s Avengers: Endgame, and it’s a big one as Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff is finally getting a sorely-deserved solo flick. As we can see from this latest footage, it’s going to be a major action spectacle touching on numerous elements of the character’s past. Have a look.

Lots to process there. We get a much better sense of the relationship between Nat and her adopted sister, Yelena. We also see quite a few massive action sequences and a couple of important returns, not the least of which is William Hurt as Thunderbolt Ross.

Easily the biggest attraction here is a ton of new Taskmaster footage. This is a villain from the pages of Marvel Comics that many fans have wanted to see on screen for a long time, and we’re going to get plenty of him (or her) in Black Widow. One of the interesting things is that Taskmaster seems to be mirroring several other characters from the MCU, such as Hawkeye, Black Panther and Captain America. In the comics, Taskmaster is an expect copycat. That seems to be intact here as well.

Cate Shortland is directing the film, with a cast that includes David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters and Rachel Weisz. Shortland becomes the first female director to helm an MCU movie on her own. Previously, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden co-directed Captain Marvel.

I’m just excited to see the real Black Widow. She’s not a classic hero because she has a dark past. You get to see all of these facets of here that we’ve never, ever seen before,” Shortland said previously in a featurette.

“Very few actors can say that they’ve worked on a character for ten years and then suddenly have this chance to delve deep into the inner-workings of this person,” Johansson said in the same piece. “We’re going to be able to create something that is a different flavor for the Marvel universe

Here’s the official synopsis for Black Widow

“In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller ‘Black Widow,’ Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”

Black Widow is set to hit theaters on May 1.
