The biggest Marvel movie of all time is making its way back to theaters. Avengers: Endgame was the biggest box office hit of all time, for a time. James Cameron’s Avatar eventually took back the crown, but that is neither here nor there. What’s important is that Disney and Marvel Studios are bringing back 2019’s blockbuster superhero epic to help hype up the release of Avengers: Doomsday in December. Dubbed Avengers Doomsday: Encore, it’s getting a big push from the studio. 

 

So, what is Avengers Doomsday: Encore, exactly? It’s, more or less, the same movie audiences came to know and love in 2019. Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, it was the conclusion to the Infinity Saga. The Encore release hits theaters on September 25. Tickets are on sale as of this writing. Disney and Marvel also released a trailer for the re-release, which you can check out below. 

 

 

 

But other than a new, shared, nostalgic communal theatrical experience, what does the screening have to offer? The special Encore presentation includes an exclusive look at the Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters on December 18. An additional sneak peek of the movie will also be available to audiences who see it on IMAX and Infinity Vision-certified screens. 

 

This is more about the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday than anything else. But Disney is also launching Infinity Vision as a new premium format. That’s because Dune: Part Three is also releasing on December 18 and will be taking up most IMAX screens. That will impact the box office. So, Disney is trying to use Infinity Vision to bolster ticket sales. This Encore re-release will sort of serve as a test run for the format. 

 

Here is the synopsis for Avengers Endgame: Encore. 

 

“In Avengers Endgame: Encore, after devastating events wiped out half the world’s population, the remaining heroes struggle to move forward. Ultimately, they must come together to restore order and harmony in the universe and bring their loved ones back in a dramatic showdown against Thanos.” 

 

Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are costing Marvel a fortune. There’s also a lot of pressure on the movies to perform after a hit/miss track record over the last several years. Movies like Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World fell well short of expectations. This re-release is all about building as much hype as possible for the arrival of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, as opposed to Iron Man.
