DC’s Watchmen: Chapter II Gets Trailer And Release Date

Watchmen: Chapter II - Warner Bros.

The first trailer for Watchmen: Chapter II has arrived. After making a movie and a sequel TV show for HBO, Warner Bros. has decided to give Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons classic graphic novel the animated treatment. Rather than compromise the story, they split it into two parts to allow for a more faithful adaptation. That comes to a close later this year when the second installment arrives. Mark your calendars, because the film will be released on Digital on November 26. The 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release will follow on December 3.

As for the trailer, it makes it clear this is going to be an R-rated affair. Warner Bros. and DC are pulling no punches with this one. That lines up with what we got with Watchmen: Chapter II, which was released over the summer. The trailer is loaded with lots of shots ripped right from the comic. WB also promises that the release will include a range of bonus features. This includes interviews with the filmmakers and more.

Here is the synopsis for Watchmen: Chapter II.

“Chapter II: Outlawed superheroes grapple with their personal lives and each other while racing the clock to solve a deepening mystery connected to an impending nuclear war between the United States and Russia.”

The cast is led by Matthew Rhys (Nite Owl), Katee Sackhoff (Silk Spectre) and Titus Welliver (Rorschach). The ensemble also includes Troy Baker (Ozymandias), Adrienne Barbeau (Sally Jupiter), Michael Cerveris (Dr. Manhattan), Zehra Fazal (Hira Manish), Phil Fondacaro (Big Figure), John Marshall Jones (Hooded Justice), Max Koch (President Nixon) and Rick D. Wasserman (The Comedian).

Watchmen has remained an important franchise for DC. The HBO TV series was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences. Unfortunately, that was a one-and-done and didn’t lend itself to multiple seasons. Beyond that, DC has published further works in that universe, including the Rorschach miniseries and the Doomsday Clock event series. The big question is what they’ll do next after this animated adaptation runs its course.

The film is produced and directed by Brandon Vietti (Young Justice). J. Michael Straczynski penned the screenplay. Jim Krieg and Cindy Rago serve as producers, with Dave Gibbons serving as consulting producer. Sam Register, Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are on board as executive producers.

Look for Watchmen: Chapter II on Digital in November and on Blu-ray in December.
