The Boys Is Officially Ending With Season 5

All good things must come to an end. That being the case, it has been confirmed that The Boys season 5 will be its last. Just ahead of the premiere of the show’s fourth season, showrunner Erik Kripke has taken to Twitter to reveal that the R-rated superhero season is headed for a conclusion. But fear not! We still have two full seasons of the show to get through before that happens.

“The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 DAYS, cause the end has begun!” Kripke said on Twitter.

Indeed, Kripke has long said that the show based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson would last five seasons. The Boys season 4 will premiere its first three episodes this Thursday on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon, confident in the show at this point, renewed it for a fifth season well before the premiere. They hadn’t, however, confirmed that it would be the show’s last. But Kripke, good to his word, is sticking with the plan.

That doesn’t mean the franchise is coming to an end by any means though. The spin-off Gen V has already been renewed for a second season by Amazon. There’s also an upcoming spin-off that will be set in Mexico that has yet to be given an official title. Beyond that, there’s always the possibility that further spin-offs could be given the green light down the road. So, even though the main show is coming to an end, the universe is expanding. This is not unlike what AMC has done with The Walking Dead in recent years.

Here is the synopsis for The Boys season 4.

“In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

The series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Kripke, Ennis and Robertson serve as executive producers alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Judalina Neira, Ken F. Levin and Jason Netter.

Aside from The Boys, Amazon is continuing to get further into the superhero business. It was recently confirmed that Nicolas Cage will star in a live-action Spider-Man: Noir series on Prime Video and MGM+. A Silk series had been in development as well, but that show was recently scrapped.

The Boys season 4 premieres June 13 on Prime Video.
