Justice U Series Featuring John Diggle In the Works for The CW

We may be seeing a whole lot more from John Diggle in the Arrowverse. What’s more, David Ramsey’s fan-favorite character may well be headlining his own show. As reported by Deadline, The CW is developing a new DC series titled Justice U. Should the series move forward, it would give Ramsey a chance to take the spotlight alongside a group of young heroes.

Per the report, the show is in early development and would see Ramsey returning as John Diggle. No other Arrowverse characters have been confirmed but the premise seems friendly for cameos from the other shows. Ramsey got his start on Arrow and has since become a huge staple of the franchise. He has also appeared in Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Superman & Lois, Supergirl and Batwoman.

Here is the logline for Justice U.

“In the new series, which is set in the Arrowverse, after years of fighting alongside masked heroes, Diggle embarks on a new mission to recruit five young meta humans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow.”

Another important thing to note is that Ramsey is already increasing his role in this universe behind the scenes. He has signed an overall deal with Berlanti Productions, which will see him directing multiple episodes of Arrowverse shows. He has already directed several episodes of The CW’s various DC shows, including an episode in “Superman & Lois” season 2. If Justice U gets a pilot order from the network, Ramsey would direct the show’s first episode. Ramsey will also be making multiple guest star appearances on other shows in the future.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and Geoff Johns, Michael Narducci and Zoanne Clack are set to produce the show. There is no word yet on a potential timetable, as the network hasn’t even given a pilot order yet. To further complicate matters, we recently heard that The CW is up for sale and may have a new owner in the future. To what degree that would impact the show remains to be seen. Though there is always the chance that it could be brought over to HBO Max in the event a sale does impact the trajectory. If things move quickly, there’s a chance we could see it this fall, though that would be a quick turnaround.

Justice U does not yet have a premiere date set.
