It’s difficult to get a grip on the story but we get a lot of intriguing and trippy imagery. It also implies that the members of the Doom Patrol may be dead. This will all seemingly stem from what happened at the end of season 2. Specifically, the confrontation with the Candlemaker.
Here is the logline for Doom Patrol season 3.
“Season three opens on the culmination of Dorothy’s (Abi Monterey) confrontation with the Candlemaker that leads to a devastating loss. The Doom Patrol is at a difficult crossroads and each member struggles to face who they are and who they want to be. And things get a whole lot more complicated when Madame Rouge (Michelle Gomez) arrives in a time machine with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it. “
The team consists of Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby), Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), Cyborg aka Victor Stone (Joivan Wade) and Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton). Jeremy Carver, Geoff Johns, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson serve as executive producers.
The series is based on characters created for DC by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani. The Doom Patrol trace their roots all the way back to My Greatest Adventure #80, which was published back in 1963. The group has taken on many shapes over the years. But they got a bit of a profile boost when Gerard Way (The Umbrella Academy) revamped the series for DC several years back.
This show began its life on the DC Universe streaming service. However, when HBO Max launched, Warner Bros. decided to move virtually all of its DC content under that umbrella. Titans and Harley Quinn also shifted platforms as a result. Titans season 3 is set to debut this week, with Harley Quinn season 3 currently in the works. DC Universe was then repurposed as a comic book subscription service.
Doom Patrol season 3 premieres September 23 on HBO Max.
