We have good news for fans of David Tennant's portrayal of Kilgrave, aka the Purple Man, in the inaugural season of Marvel's Jessica Jones: He’s coming back for the sophomore season!
Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Tennant will reprise his role as the mind-controlling supervillain in Jessica Jones Season 2. The outlet also shared an on-set photo of the 46-year-old actor with Krysten Ritter, who plays the titular superhero. Both are clad in their characters’ usual regalia.
Marvel hasn't revealed any specific details in regard to Tennant's involvement in the Netflix series' upcoming season, so it's not clear whether he’ll be a series regular, a recurring character, or a guest.
Throughout the first season, Kilgrave used his mind-control ability to torment Jessica and a number of other characters in unspeakable ways. However, Ritter's character eventually grew immune to his powers, and put an end to his atrocities by snapping his neck in the season finale.
Kilgrave is certainly one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best villains, so fans will be hyped about his return in Jessica Jones Season 2. But a dead character’s resurrection always raises questions.
It's entirely possible – and more likely – that rather than resurrecting David Tennant's character, the studio will use him in flashback sequences. In case you missed it, several set photos from a few weeks ago appeared to indicate that the second season will delve into Jessica's past. Kilgrave might play a part in that exploration. Check out the new set photo below!
It’s also been confirmed that Rachel Taylor's Trish Walker and Carrie-Anne Moss' Jeri Hogarth have been confirmed to return in Season Two. Additionally, the show has added J.R. Ramirez as Oscar, Leah Gibson as Ingrid, and Janet McTeer as a mysterious character who has "an enormous impact on Jessica's life".
