Jean Grey

The first X-Men trilogy can be said to have been built around Jean Grey’s transformation into the Phoenix. Is this the beginning of a new (and proper, this time) adaptation of the beloved X-Men story arc?

Bryan Singer has teased this possibility on several occasions, even if he said that he’d be interested in bringing other powerful villains to the big screen, as well (namely Proteus). But, most recently, he did say that some scenes in X-Men: Apocalypse will show that there is a hidden power inside Jean Grey, a power that always tries to break loose.

Did we just see that in the final X-Men: Apocalypse trailer?

We believe we did. While attention is stolen by other newcomers (Psylocke, Storm, and Cyclops), there is a particular scene in which Jean Grey looks fierce, as if realizing that she is the only one that can put a stop to it all. And if her story does lead into the Dark Phoenix Saga, she is, indeed, the only one among the X-Men who can defeat him.

While seeing villains like Proteus on the big screens is a must, seeing the Dark Phoenix Saga done right is a muster (if we may say so).
