Suicide Squad – Margot Robbie Explains Why The Joker Scenes Were Cut!

Margot Robbie explains why a lot of The Joker's scenes were cut from Suicide Squad!

Jared Leto's The Joker was an integral component of Suicide Squad's marketing, but when it comes the movie's theatrical cut, there isn't a lot of him. The scarcity of the Clown Prince of Crime's scenes made a lot of fans upset, even the ones who really liked the August 5 release.

And what made them even more disheartened was Leto revealing a couple of days ago that "a lot of scenes" featuring him as The Joker didn't make it to the theatrical cut. Why were those scenes cut? Well, we have an answer to that question now!

Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, recently paid a visit to the YouTube series Tipsy Talk (via EW), and while speaking with host Hazel Hayes, she explained why scenes featuring The Joker were not there in the movie.

According to the Aussie actress, those scenes featured not only featured Leto's character, but also her character. She claims that they shot "so much" of Harley and The Joker's backstory. Robbie adds:

They probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission that we were on, and explaining the Enchantress' position and all that kind of stuff. And the [Harley and Joker] backstory stuff, though it's magic and some of the stuff we shot was insane, they are flashbacks"¦so there's a lot, but it just didn't make sense to confuse the present storyline to incorporate all that.

That makes sense, doesn't it? It is, after all, a Suicide Squad movie and The Joker isn't a member of the Skwad. Nor is he the main antagonist in the David Ayer flick.

So, giving him more screen time might have infuriated the same critics who are calling the supervillain's role in the movie "a cameo". Ayer opposed that particular remark in a recent interview.

Despite having scenes featuring The Joker and Harley Quinn removed, Robbie is hopeful about her character sharing the screen with her "puddin" in a future DC Extended Universe installment. When the 26-year-old actress is asked about the previously confirmed Harley Quinn spin-off, she responds:

I'm trying to make that happen. There's just so much more to do.
