Morbius Movie in Development at Sony!

Sony is reportedly developing a solo movie for Morbius!

According to a new report, we’ll see Morbius the Living Vampire on the big screen in the near future! It turns out that Sony Pictures has been secretly developing a movie based on the Marvel Comics character.

Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it appears that Sony’s in no mood to grant Marvel Studios access to several other characters. With the goal of building its own separate Marvel Universe, the studio announced that it would make Venom and Silver and Black. Venom, with Ruben Fleischer at the helm and Tom Hardy as the titular character, has already kicked off production. Silver and Black has found its director in Gina Prince-Bythewood and is expected to move into production soon.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the standalone Morbius movie, penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Gods of Egypt, and the Power Rangers reboot), will follow these projects. The screenwriting duo recently handed over the script to Sony, but the studio is keeping it under wraps and is declining to comment in general.

Created in the early 1970s by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Dr. Michael Morbius was an acclaimed biochemist who experimented upon himself in the hope that he could cure his own rare blood disease. But the experiment went wrong, and Morbius became a pseudo-vampire with superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and the capability of healing an an accelerated rate.

It must be noted that Sony apparently has other projects in the works, including solo movies for Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Nightwatch. It’s likely that Sony is going for R ratings for most or all of them.
