The Walking Dead Spin-Off Finally Has a Title

AMC has revealed a new trailer for The Walking Dead spin-off, which finally reveals the show’s title as well. Per the teaser, the latest show set in TWD universe is titled World Beyond. As we see in the trailer, the show will center on the first group of kids to come of age in the zombie apocalypse, and it looks quite a bit different than what we’ve seen in the main series. Have a look.

As we can see, there are no familiar faces in this show. It’s also taking us on a journey into the future, far removed from the main show and Fear the Walking Dead. This is, in as much as something can be in a universe such as this, entirely new. TWD universe head Scott Gimple took to Instagram to also reveal the show’s title.

“I’ve been working with a lot of talented people to bring you a brand new world of The Walking Dead. Here we go,” Gimple said. The show was first announced over the summer during San Diego Comic-Con, but the title has remained a mystery until now.

“It’s people coming of age but on a quest of sorts. The quest aspect makes it very different beyond the fact that these kids are unlike characters we’ve seen before,” Gimple said in an interview with Deadline shortly after the series was revealed. “They’ve grown up in all of this but they’ve also grown up in relative safety. So they’re aware of the world and of walkers but they’ve grown up behind walls so they’re not out there mixing it up with the walkers and the dangers. They’ve had a very sheltered experience. They’ve also enjoyed something close to a First World kind of life. So it’s a big deal for them to experience these things. They aren’t ignorant of the world but they haven’t had to face it or deal with it as deeply as they will in the stories that we’re going to be telling.”

Here’s the official synopsis for The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond will focus on the first generation raised in the zombie apocalypse. Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”

The cast includes Julia Ormond, Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, Natalie Gold, Al Calderon, Scott Adsit and Ted Sutherland. Matt Negrete co-created the Walking Dead spin-off with Gimple, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) directing the pilot.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond debuts in 2020 on AMC.
