The good news? Superman & Lois season 4 is still happening at The CW. The bad news? The show is going to return much later in 2024 than originally expected. The news comes as both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) remain on strike, which has effectively brought Hollywood to a halt. As a result, Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s fourth season of adventures will have to wait.
Nexstar, the new owner of The CW as of last year, revealed the news recently. All of the network’s scripted shows will be pushed further into 2024. Since Nexstar took over, almost all of the network’s scripted programming has disappeared. Superman & Lois is one of only a small handful that remains. “The farther the strike goes on, [the scripted shows] get pushed further and further into 2024,” Perry Sook, CEO of CW parent Nexstar Media Group, said in a recent earnings call (per Deadline).
Superman & Lois season 3 wrapped up its run back in June. Just ahead of the season finale, The CW renewed the show for an abbreviated 10-episode fourth season. One of the big conditions for the renewal was trimming costs, meaning fewer series regular cast members, among other things. Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment at The CW, had this to say in a statement at the time of the show’s renewal.
“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW. These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
The series stars Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, Garfin as Jordan Kent, Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, Alexander Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cushing, Wolé Parks as Henry Irons, Tayler Buck as Natalie Irons, Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo, Chad L. Coleman as Bruno Mannheim, Dylan Walsh as General Samuel Lane and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang Cushing. Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, Brent Fletcher, Todd Helbing, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti serve as executive producers.
“Superman & Lois” season 4 is set to premiere sometime in 2024.
