Reports of Bane’s inclusion in Peacemaker have been greatly exaggerated. Recently, several reports started making the rounds suggesting that the famed Batman villain was set to appear in the upcoming HBO Max series. The show will center on John Cena’s character from The Suicide Squad. However, series creator and director James Gunn has revealed that those reports are, indeed, not true.
Taking to Twitter, Gunn took some time to debunk the rumors that were floating around. Though Bane isn’t in the cards yet, the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker did explain that he would be into the idea of bringing the character into this universe down the line.

“Sorry to say your second exclusive scoop is incorrect. I don’t know what your first scoop was, but hopefully you’re batting 500, which isn’t bad. Also, I love Bane, & I’m not opposed to #Peacemaker getting his ass kicked, so who knows what the future could bring,” Gunn said on Twitter.
But wait, there’s more…
Unfortunately, the back and forth didn’t stop there. In most cases, when a filmmaker debunks a rumor, that should be the end of it. In reply to a fan in the comments, Gunn got a bit irritated saying, “Stop. I have never lied to fans about this stuff and I never will.” Then things got a bit uglier.
YouTuber Grace Randolph argued that Bane will indeed show up for once scene to tease Peacemaker season 2. She argued that didn’t count as an appearance. Gunn then stepped in to reply to Randolph, setting the record straight even further.

“That would, by my definition, mean he was technically in the show. He does not show up at the end or anywhere and has zero lines,” Gunn said in response.
The Suicide Squad was released earlier this summer. Though it was well-liked critically, it failed to connect at the box office. HBO Max may be in part to blame. The pandemic. It’s complicated. But Warner Bros. was already well into production on Peacemaker season 1. So we’re getting the show no matter what.
The good news is that the movie was praised by those who saw it. Specifically, Cena’s violent protector of peace was a standout. He will be joined by Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black; The Color Purple on Broadway) as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day; HBO’s Perry Mason) as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland (Brightburn; American Horror Story), as Emilia Harcourt from The Suicide Squad and Chris Conrad (Perpetual Grace, LTD.; Patriot) as Vigilante/Adrian Chase.
Peacemaker is set to hit HBO Max in 2022.
