New Transformers One Trailer Arrives Fresh From SDCC

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have shared a brand new trailer for Transformers One. The footage for the upcoming animated feature was premiered during the film’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, which is happening as we speak. Fortunately, the studio decided to give the fans at home a state of what’s to come. This latest action-packed footage showcases a lot more of the film, highlighting the interesting dynamic between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Check it out.

This trailer offers up far more of the story than the previously released teaser trailer did. We get to see Optimus, voiced by Thor star Chris Hemsworth, and Megatron, voiced by Eternals star Brian Tyree Henry, before they become mortal enemies. The film is a prequel taking place years and years before the fall of Cybertron, offering us a new look at the robots in disguise. It’s clear that Paramount is hoping to capitalize on recent similar animated reinventions of popular franchises, much like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. We’ll see how it goes but the pieces certainly seem to be on the board.

Here is the synopsis for Transformers One.

“Transformers One is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever.”

The voice cast for the film also includes Scarlett Johansson (Elita-1), Keegan-Michael Key (Bumblebee), Steve Buscemi (Starscream), Laurence Fishburne (Alpha Trion) and Jon Hamm (Sentinel Prime). Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) is in the director’s chair. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem are on board as producers. Steven Spielberg, Zev Foreman, Olivier Dumont, Brian Oliver, B.J. Farmer and Matt Quigg serve as executive producers.

“Hasbro gave me the bible of Transformers, this Tolkien-length history – so much to play with, a huge sandbox,” Cooley said during the film’s SDCC panel. “I wanted the feeling of what it was like to play with the toys as a kid, that feeling of nostalgia and joy trying to make these things work.”

It’s certainly been a fruitful time for the Autobots and Decepticons. Skybound recently relaunched the comics in a shared universe with G.I. Joe known as the Energon Universe. We also had last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. In the wake of that, Paramount recently announced a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover movie, which will also star Chris Hemsworth. Is he taking over as Optimus in live-action too? Or is he playing a different character in the flesh? We shall see, but there’s plenty for Transformers fans to enjoy right now.

Transformers One is set to hit theaters on September 20.
