New Trailer For DC’s The Penguin Series Released By Max

Max has released a brand new trailer for The Penguin. The upcoming series will debut on the streaming service in the fall. Set in the same universe as 2022’s The Batman, Colin Farrell returns as the famed DC Comics villain. But that’s not all, as other members of Gotham City’s crime world will be in the mix as well. Check it out.

The trailer is exceptionally dark and offers a different look at Gotham. Director Matt Reeves did a lot to build out his version of the city that Bruce Wayne calls home in his 2022 film. Now, we’re going to see much more of that from Penguin’s perspective. It looks very much like it exists in the same universe. It also looks like Warner Bros. spared no expense. This looks like the R-rated version of this franchise for sure. Reeves is currently working on The Batman Part II. Whether or not it ties directly to this series remains to be seen.

Here is the synopsis for The Penguin.

“Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka ‘The Penguin’), the eight-episode DC Studios limited series continues filmmaker Matt Reeves’ The Batman epic crime saga that began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster The Batman. Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series centers on the character played by Farrell in the film.”

The series also stars Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Nadia Maroni), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), Clancy Brown (Salvatore Maroni), James Madio (Milos Grapa), Scott Cohen (Luca Falcone), Michael Zegen (Alberto Falcone), Carmen Ejogo (Eve Karlo) and Theo Rossi (Dr. Julian Rush).

This show is just one of many DC projects coming down the pipeline. Some of those will take place in The Batman universe, such as a proposed show set in Arkham Asylum. Reeves’ The Batman Part II was recently delayed to 2026, seemingly because of all the shuffling going around behind the scenes. Warner Bros. hired James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-heads of DC Studios in 2022, meaning big changes are on the way.

Most of the new shows and movies will take place in Gunn’s new DC Universe that kicks off next year with a new Superman movie. This will reboot Zack Snyder’s version of the DCEU. The existence of Robert Pattinson’s Batman, who will not exist in Gunn’s universe, has undoubtedly complicated matters a bit for WB.

“The death of Carmine Falcone at the end of [The Batman] leaves this vacuum in Gotham to be filled, and so there are various people that are grabbing for that power,” Farrell said of the show in an interview with MovieZine. “This is Oswald’s journey trying to rise to the top through extraordinary obstacles, and it’s super dark.”

Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark,  Daniel Pipski, Bill Carraro, Farrell and LeFranc are on board as executive producers. Craig Zobel, who directs the first three episodes, also serves as an executive producer. also serves as executive producer.

The Penguin arrives on Max in September.
