Mortal Kombat 12 Officially Announced By Warner Bros.

It’s official: we’re getting a new Mortal Kombat game. The news was finally announced by Warner Bros. recently during an earnings call, oddly enough. During the call, the studio was explaining the importance of video games in the company’s future. At that point, it was confirmed that Mortal Kombat 12 will be releasing this year.

Few details were confirmed during the call. It was more of an off-handed mention, though one that came from one of the top executives in the company. That person was Andrew Slabin, Warner Bros. Discovery’s executive vice president of global investor strategy. “There’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” he said on the call. So there we have it!

Mortal Kombat 11 was released back in November 2019. The game was met with very strong reviews and has kept up a winning streak for the long-running fighting game series. In particular, recent entries have had story modes that players can enjoy. These offer a cinematic story to go along with the usual PvP fighting modes. One assumes that MK12 will keep up that tradition.

Here is the synopsis for Mortal Kombat 11.

“Continue the epic saga through a new cinematic story that is more than 25 years in the making. Players will take on the role of a variety of past and present characters in a time-bending new narrative that pits Raiden against Kronika, the Keeper of Time who created existence at the dawn of history.”

Meanwhile, there is plenty more going on with the franchise outside of the new game. Earlier this year, Warner Bros. also announced Mortal Kombat: Onslaught. It is a mobile RPG that is also launching this year. We’ve also got a sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat movie. While that film didn’t do a ton of damage at the box office, it did do very well on HBO Max. There have been few updates on the follow-up as of late. We do know that the script is well underway though. Plus, we’ve had the Mortal Kombat Legends animated films over the last few years, with Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind arriving last year. So there is much to look forward to for fans of the series.

Mortal Kombat 12 does not yet have a release date set.
