The first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance is here. It’s been a long, weird journey but Tom Hardy’s time as Eddie Brock seems to be coming to an end. As the title implies, this is expected to be the final film in the actor’s Venom trilogy. But based on the trailer, it looks like he will be going on with the biggest – and weirdest – adventure yet. Check it out.
There is a lot to digest in the footage. Venom and Eddie have continued to evolve their symbiotic relationship. The film sees them on the run, with a full-scale symbiote alien invasion threatening Earth. There are dance numbers, lots of death, and even a horse getting taken over by the symbiote. Sony certainly isn’t dialing anything back with Venom 3, that much is certain.
Sony has made relatively quick work of this trilogy. Venom hit theaters in 2018 and became a surprise hit. Despite poor reviews from critics, it pulled in $856 million at the box office. 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage was also a hit, with $501 million worldwide. That film was also contending with the pandemic, making the total more impressive. As such, Sony was quick to green light Venom 3.
Here is the synopsis for Venom: The Last Dance.
“In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
The cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises), Rhys Ifans (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Peggy Lu (Marvel’s Runaways), Alanna Ubach (Ted) and Stephen Graham (Hellboy). Kelly Marcel makes her feature directorial debut with The Last Dance. Marcel wrote the screenplay, working from a story she cooked up with Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Marcel, Hardy and Hutch Parker serve as producers, with Joe Caracciolo Jr. on board as an executive producer.
Meanwhile, the future of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off universe remains a bit uncertain. With the Venom trilogy coming to an end, they have no clear winners. Morbius was a big flop in 2022, with Madame Web bombing in theaters earlier this year. Kraven the Hunter is due to arrive in December. Its fate remains uncertain, but that film will be R-rated, adding to the intrigue. What the studio does beyond that is very much up in the air.
Venom: The Last Dance is set to hit theaters on October 25.
