Marvel Likely Won’t Reach Its Next ‘Endgame’ for 10 Years

The Marvel Cinematic Universe likely won’t see won’t see another Avengers: Endgame level event for another decade or so. This, according to producer Trinh Tran. The producer made the reveal during a recent chat with CinemaBlend. While speaking about the possibility of another event of that size in the future, Tran hinted that it’s going to be a long time before that happens.

“Our focus right now is to make sure that the titles that we’ve released in Phase 4,” Tran said. “Obviously those stories are going to be new, exciting, different and can connect with the audience like the other movies have been. Over 10 years ago, it’s always been our dream to get to Infinity War and Endgame level. We didn’t know obviously where that was going to go at the start of the studio, but it’s incredible to know that we were able to accomplish that. Now it’d be amazing if we could get to that level 10 years later, so I think it’s a dream to continue doing that and build upon the MCU and the connective tissue that we have.

“And now with obviously our Disney+ side and the shows and how our characters are venturing into that world and how that’s gonna lead to the future and more franchises and more stories and more properties and their connective tissue to the rest of the MCU, it would be amazing to do something like this 10 years later,” Tran added.

As disappointing as this may sound on the surface, it makes a great deal of sense. Iron Man was released in 2008 and it took a long time for Marvel to plant the seeds that grew into the double-dose of massive Thanos action that was Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It would be difficult to do anything on that scale again without giving it the proper time to mature, otherwise, it would run the risk of feeling rushed or forced.

That said, we’re sure to get some team-ups along the way. Phase 4 of the MCU kicks off next year with Black Widow. That will be followed by Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnes and Thor: Love and Thunder. Marvel Studios also has Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, the Blade reboot, the X-Men reboot and a new take on the Fantastic Four in the pipeline.

Here is the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame

“Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers – Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner – must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos – the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.”
