Lucifer Season 6 Announced, Season 5 Sets Premiere Date On Netflix

Lucifer season 6 is a go at Netflix. The streaming service has announced that they will bring Back Tom Ellis for a sixth and final season. This comes after the show was saved by Netflix after its cancellation at Fox.

“the devil made us do it. Lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. like, FINAL final,” the tweet reads.

Netflix recently revealed that season 5 of the DC Comics show will debut on August 21. The show’s episode order was upped from ten to 16. The season will be split into two parts as a result, with 5A arriving in August. There is no word yet on a timetable for 5B.

The series cast includes  Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, Aimee Garcia and Rachael Harris. Lucifer is based on the character created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics. The character first appeared in The Sandman before getting his own spin-off. The TV show made its debut on Fox in January 2016. Following the third season, the series was axed by the network, with Netflix stepping up to rescue it shortly thereafter.

“One of the big things that came out of out the whole Save Lucifer campaign was not only how vocal our audience was, but how big and eclectic they were. It seems to appeal to lots of people, across generations,” Ellis said in an interview with Collider last year. “There are not many shows that cater to all of that. I think one of the reasons was that because we were on Fox, we had boundaries in place and we could never go too far. We could never go vulgar. We could never curse, all the time. There are things that alienate certain audience members, and we became very mindful of that, once the show got picked up by Netflix. So, even though we have new boundaries that we can operate in, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t change the show that people have fallen in love with. We wanted to keep our audience and grow our audience, and becoming aware of the broad appeal of the show was quite important in that.”

Here is the official synopsis for Lucifer.

“LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles, where he has teamed up with LAPD detective CHLOE DECKER to take down criminals.”
