Well Go USA has released a brand new trailer for Legend of the White Dragon. This serves as Jason David Frank’s final movie. The actor was best known for his work as the Green Ranger in Power Rangers. Now, several years after his untimely passing, his longtime passion project of a superhero movie is getting a theatrical release. Check it out.
Though not officially part of the Power Rangers universe, this looks like it was made with the fans in mind. Since Netflix canceled its plans for a Power Rangers universe, this may well scratch a certain itch fans have had for some time. It looks like it was made on a relatively low budget, but it also features quite the ensemble cast and no shortage of action.
Here is the synopsis for Legend of the White Dragon.
“Jason David Frank is the White Dragon. Forced to hide in the shadows, fugitive hero Erik Reed must clear his name to reunite with his family. Standing in his way is a mysterious villain obsessed with destroying the White Dragon for good.”
“We are proud to have worked with such a talented actor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share his final performance with the world,” Aaron Schoenke told Deadline in March of 2023. “Having been on this journey with Jason for 10 years, I know he would be beyond excited to know that Legend of the White Dragon will be opening in theaters.”
Frank died in November 2022 before the release of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always on Netflix. Frank did, however, appear in the special through archival footage. But the actor was dedicated to making this movie happen up until his passing. The producers have since suffered several setbacks on the road to release. But now, it has a distributor and will finally be released next month.
The movie was directed by Aaron Schoenke Sean Schoenke, with the duo also penning the screenplay. The cast also includes Jason Faunt (Power Rangers Wild Force), Rachele Brooke Smith (Iron Man 2), Michael Madsen (Kill Bill), Andrew Bachelor (The Babysitter), David Ramsey (Arrow) and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum).
Meanwhile, a new Power Rangers series is in the works for Disney+. Details have remained scarce but the franchise has long sought to establish itself with a new generation. Lionsgate’s 2017 live-action movie was meant to have several sequels, but failed to deliver at the box office.
Legend of the White Dragon hits theaters on August 28.
