A new Hellboy video game is coming to consoles and PC this fall. Good Shepherd Entertainment has announced an October release date for Hellboy Web of Wyrd. To go along with the announcement, which dropped during this year’s Gamescom event, a new trailer for the game was released as well. Check it out.
As we can see, the game is very much in the style of Mike Mignola’s classic Dark Horse comics. It also features the late actor Lance Reddick (John Wick, Resident Evil) as Hellboy. Developed by Upstream Arcade, it’s a single-player action-adventure game that will send the character on a series of different and wholly unique adventures. Each story stands on its own, but they are all tied to the mysterious legacy of The Butterfly House.
Here is the synopsis for Hellboy Web of Wyrd.
“Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a roguelike action brawler with an original story created in partnership with Dark Horse Comics and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. When an agent of the B.P.R.D. goes missing, Hellboy is sent to investigate; pulling him into the depths of the Wyrd.”
The game will be released for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC via Steam. It is currently available to wishlist but pre-orders, as of this writing, are not live yet. Amanda Kruse, Publishing Director at Good Shepherd Entertainment, had this to say when the game was announced:
“Adapting the Hellboy comics to a game is a dream project for all of us. The opportunity to create something authentic — that’s something we take very seriously. Our partnership with Mike Mignola and the creative team at Dark Horse has been inspiring. The support and trust they’ve given us has allowed Upstream Arcade to bring their vision to life. Hellboy Web of Wyrd is a bold new work we are excited to share with fans of the comics and action-adventure games alike.”
It’s a good time to be a Hellboy fan, as there is plenty of new stuff on the way featuring the beloved character. Aside from the game, a new movie recently wrapped filming. Titled Hellboy: the Crooked Man, it stars Jack Kesy as the title character, with Brian Tyler (Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). It’s also going to be R-rated. It is seemingly going to be a lower-budget affair that leans into the comic’s horror elements. The studio is going to try to avoid the mistakes of 2019’s failed reboot.
Hellboy Web of Wyrd arrives on October 4.
