New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Starring Dave Bautista Released

A brand new trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has been released. And not just any trailer, but one featuring Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista. Indeed, the actor behind Drax has lent his talents to NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games in anticipation of the game’s release her in a few weeks. What’s more, Bautista helped to recreate some magic from a commercial for the original Mortal Kombat that was released back in 1992. Check it out.

The trailer is, admittedly, very light on actual gameplay. We get some glimpses at the end, but this is more about setting a tone. We see various people yelling “Mortal Kombat” after being encouraged by Bautista. This all harkens back to the famous ad from the ‘90s where a kid yelled the name of the game rather loudly. It lived on in infamy, and even made it into the 1995 film’s soundtrack. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon had this to say about it.

“The original Mortal Monday commercial earmarked the beginning of our journey into making games for home gaming systems. It’s amazing to pay homage to such a memorable moment in Mortal Kombat history as we get ready to launch our newest game, Mortal Kombat 1.”

As the title for the game implies, this will officially reboot the continuity of the series. NeatherRealm has been layering in stories in recent entries, making the games more than just beat-em-ups. But after the timeline was shattered in Mortal Kombat 11, the developers decided it was time for a reset.

Here is the synopsis for Mortal Kombat 1.

“It’s In Our Blood! Discover a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang. Mortal Kombat 1 ushers in a new era of the iconic franchise with a new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities.”

Meanwhile, there is plenty for fans of the franchise to be excited about. Aside from the new game, a sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat movie is currently in the works. Filming had started earlier this year but was forced to stop when the Screen Actors Guild went on strike. If the strikes end even remotely soon, the movie could end up hitting theaters next year. If not, it will likely be pushed to 2025. At least we’ve got a new game to hold us over until that happens.

Mortal Kombat 1 arrives September 19.
