Harley Quinn Returns in New Birds of Prey Poster

The first official poster for Birds of Prey is here. The Harley Quinn-centric DC Comics adaptation will be the next movie coming to theaters that will be connected to the DCEU. Joker arrives in October, but that will exists all on its own. In any event, not much has been revealed about this particular project, but now we have a new poster that promises a very colorful film. Have a look.

"Mind over mayhem. #BirdsOfPrey 2.7.20," the caption reads. As we can see, all of the supporting players are surrounding Harley's head. It's a very different take on the character than what we saw in David Ayer's Suicide Squad and it offers an expectation of something much more wacky and irreverent than one might have thought.

Plot details are being kept somewhat under wraps, but we know Margot Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn, yet Jared Leto's Joker won't be. It's expected that the plot will take place in Gotham City, one that is absent of Batman's presence (which almost certainly has to do with Ben Affleck no longer playing the part). The villainous Black Mask will be running things in the crime world, and that's where Harley comes in.

When last we saw Harley, she was being busted out of jail by Joker. What happened between then and the beginning of this film? That's the big question. Undoubtedly, a question that will be answered, one would suspect, early on in this movie's runtime.

Just as a little refresher, here's the synopsis for Suicide Squad

"Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while the diabolical Joker (Jared Leto) launches an evil agenda of his own."

A teaser trailer for Birds of Prey is expected to be officially released online in time for it to be attached to Joker in October. A teaser was shown in theaters ahead of IT Chapter Two, but was never released online officially by Warner Bros. Though, various leaked versions of the trailer did make their way online anyway. But even that choice bit of footage made it hard to understand exactly what this movie is going to be.

The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Ella Jay Basco (Cassandra Cain), Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya), Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz) and Ewan McGregor (Black Mask). Ali Wong, Robert Catrini and Michael Masini also star. Cathy Yan is in the director's chair working from a script by Christina Hodson.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2020.

So what do you think? Is this a good poster? Will this be another one in the plus column for DC Films? Sound off in the comments!
