Heads up, Witcher fans! Netflix has released a new trailer for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. Premiering next month on the streaming service, this is a brand new animated film set within the ever-growing franchise. It looks very much like a welcome addition to the universe, promising more from Geralt of Rivia. This time around, it’s humans versus merpeople. Buckle up.
The teaser shows an animated Geralt, looking very much like his live-action counterpart played by Henry Cavill in The Witcher. “The humans aren’t looking for truth. It’s no longer about sustenance. It’s about greed,” he says. The voice will likely sound familiar to fans of the series, as Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt in the games, is lending his talents to the project. There’s plenty of action, politics and monsters for viewers to enjoy.
Here is the synopsis for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.
“Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into all-out war.”
This is just the latest effort by Netflix to expand the franchise. The streamer previously released the spin-off series The Witcher: Blood Origin in December 2022. There was also another anime film titled Nightmare of the Wolf, which was released in 2021. As for the main series, a fourth season is on the way. However, Cavill is being replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. Hemsworth will carry things forward in season 5 as well, which will be the show’s last.
Cavill, for his part, has moved on to other projects. He was originally supposed to return as Superman following his cameo in Black Adam. However, Warner Bros. decided to reboot the DC Universe instead, with James Gunn’s Superman hitting theaters next year. David Corenswet (Pearl, Twisters) is taking over as our new Man of Steel. Cavill is currently working on a Warhammer 40,000 adaptation for Amazon, in addition to starring in the upcoming Voltron film.
Sirens of the Deep was written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin. Kang Hei Chul is in the director’s chair. It marks his feature directorial debut. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is on board as a producer, with Mike Ostrowski, Tomek Bagiński, Jarosław Sawko, Jason F Brown and Sean Daniel serving as executive producers. Rae Benjamin is on board as a Co-Executive Producer, with Andrzej Sapkowski, author of The Witcher novels, serving as a Creative Consultant.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep hits Netflix on February 11.
