Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Adds Stranger Things Star In Mystery Role

Tom Holland's Spider-Man / Sadie Sink

At long last, Spider-Man 4 is finally getting underway. Despite becoming literally one of the biggest movies of all time, it’s been more than three years since Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters. Holland has stayed busy and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued to work its way through the Multiverse Saga. Fortunately, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are finally getting the pieces on the board for Peter Parker’s next adventure – and they’ve added a major star to the sequel.

According to Deadline, Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is set to star in Spider-Man 4. The sequel, which does not have an official title yet, is et to begin filming later this year. Some of Sink’s other credits include The Whale and O’Dessa. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is directing the movie. Jon Watts directed Holland’s previous three MCU solo outings.

As for who Sink is playing? That’s the big question. Rumors have swirled that the actress is in line to play Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men reboot, which is in the works at Marvel Studios. Introducing a famous mutant in a Spider-Man movie would be an unexpected move. There’s also the possibility that Sink could be playing Mary Jane Watson, or perhaps even Gwen Stacy. After all, No Way Home ended with the whole world forgetting who Peter Parker is. That could open the door for a new love interest.

“We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker. And he was going to focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. That’s what the movie is about.” producer Amy Pascal previously said of what the sequel is going to be about

The MCU is rapidly closing in on the end of this current saga. Thunderbolts* hits theaters in May, bringing Phase 5 to a close. Fantastic Four: First Steps will follow in July, kicking off Phase 6. Spider-Man 4 is in a unique position, arriving between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The release schedule could change between now and then.

For Sony, this movie is a major point of focus. After the release of Kraven the Hunter, the studio is no longer focusing on villain spin-offs. The only other movie they have officially announced is the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which has been delayed several times. So, for the time being, Sony’s eggs are in this basket. Sink is now seemingly an important part of that basket as well.

Spider-Man 4 hits theaters on July 24, 2026.
