Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Director’s Cut Trailer Released By Netflix

Heads up, Zack Snyder fans. Netflix has released a new trailer for the filmmaker’s Rebel Moon director’s cuts, which are coming to the streamer next month. Snyder’s latest sci-fi epic premiered in two parts, with A Child of Fire arriving late last year, followed by The Scargiver in April. Now, Snyder is going full-on R-rated with more footate, new titles and a whole lot more blood. Check it out.

The trailer lends heavily into the R-rated nature of the new cuts. There are lots of shots of slow motion, blood-soaked violence. That was absent from the original cuts. Netflix bills this as “Zack Snyder’s true vision.” The hope is that these cuts will be better received. Rebel Moon was rejected by critics, with the first entry boasting a 22% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences weren’t much kinder, with the audience score sitting at 56%. Rebel Moon started as a pitch for a possible Star Wars movie, but evolved into something original at Netflix. Star Wars would never be quite this bloody, that much is certain.

Here is the synopsis for the Rebel Moon director’s cuts.

“In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.”

For what it’s worth, Snyder’s director’s cuts are often received better than his theatrical cuts. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the premiere example of that at work. The Rebel Moon director’s cuts will be titled Chalice of Blood and Curse of Forgiveness. Snyder co-wrote the films alongside Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. Snyder also produced alongside Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman and Wesley Coller. Bergen Swanson, Sarah Bowen, Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad are on board as executive producers.

The massive cast for the films is led by Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy. The ensemble also includes Staz Nair, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi and Ray Fisher.

Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness hit Netflix on August 2.
