The first trailer for Marvel’s Eternals has arrived. The footage offers our first real look at what is poised to be the MCU’s next big franchise. Much like Guardians of the Galaxy before it, audiences are largely unfamiliar with the group. But Marvel is banking big on Jack Kirby’s creations. Have a look.
As we can see, the story is going to span thousands of years. A huge ensemble will be at the story’s center. This isn’t going to be any single character leading the way, it appears. As Marvel explains, “The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.” The trailer doesn’t give too much by way of specifics. But it does include a nice Avengers nod toward the end.
Here is the synopsis for Marvel’s Eternals.
“Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.”
Chloe Zhao is in the director’s chair. Zhao is coming fresh off of Nomadland, which won Best Picture at the Oscars. Zhao also won Best Director for her work. While she was hired long before Nomadland became a critical darling, that has added an extra layer to Marvel’s Eternals.
The ensemble cast includes…
Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris
Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi
Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo
Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast Makkari
Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor Phastos
Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak
Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite
Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh
Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig
Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena
Additionally, Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman
A poster for the film has also been revealed. We’ve included it for you to check out below.
Other MCU movies on the way this year include Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which got a trailer recently as well. 2022 will see the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels, aka Captain Marvel 2.
Eternals is set to arrive in theaters on November 5.
